Adele Carter

About us

A locally owned business with all previous owners all living in Clayton West. In 1947 Ernest Bedford bought the company from Mr. Barraclough as a joiners and funeral directors where Ernest worked in the workshop employing quite a few local people as joinery apprentices. In later years he became a lay preacher at the local Methodist Church until his retirement from the business in 1978.

Keith Firth bought the business after Ernest Bedford’s retirement in 1978. Phillip Carter started working for Keith as an apprentice in 1979. With planning granted the garage was converted to a Chapel of Rest at the side of the workshop. Keith owned and worked at the business until his retirement in 2004 when Phillip and Adele Carter bought the business, with Phillip carrying on with the joinery work and Adele taking the Funeral Directors role.
